Welcome to The Natural Sportsman!

Welcome to the Natural Sporstsman Website. We hope you enjoy the articles, information, and photos as we present the outdoor adventures of CHIEF and his friends, The "Bayou Boys". We are active players in the most challenging sporting venue in the world: the great outdoors. Our goal is to learn as much as we can about the world of nature and to be responsible participants in our role at the top of the food chain. You won't find anyone anywhere who enjoys the privilege of hunting and fishing more than the people featured here. We are an exponetial evolution of the native Americans who were here 1000 years ago as well as decendants of the great men who settled this country with little more than an axe and a rifle in hand. We're not purist, we don't have a political agenda to promote, and we aren't selling anything. We hunt because that is what men do. We simply love being outside and and the excitement and challenges that Mother Nature provides us. We believe in having the right tool for the job, and try to look at every subject from as many different angles as possible. We are woodsmen, weekend warriors, and mavens of adventure. Philosophers who don't take themselves to seriously. Good 'ol boys with just enough education to be dangerous. Renascence outdoorsmen, if you will. But more than anything, we are students in the classroom of planet earth. We never wanted to know a great deal about any one thing. Through the years we have accomplished that and this website is proof, as it covers variety of subjects you may find interesting. If you like what you see here, please tell a friend. We look forward to your input and comments. Welcome to the Natural Sportsman....Surrender to your instincts.

Fishingchief writes 'Fly Fishing II – How to Get Started
By Tim Quinton

Welcome back Natural Sportsman Fly Fishermen! And Women – I call all of you Fly Fishermen, regardless of gender. I figure if that’s OK with Linda Greenlaw (skipper of one of the Andrea Gail’s sister ships in “The Perfect Storm”), then it’s OK with me.
Since becoming a Fly Fisherman 40 years ago I have progressed from novice to professional, and I have helped many of my friends and relatives get started in the sport. That is my goal in this article – to help you Fly Fishermen wannabe’s start your journey on the right foot.
In this installment we’ll talk about equipment: rods, reels, lines, leaders, flies, clothing, and the assorted stuff we use while fly fishing. In the next article we’ll briefly go into the fishing part. Volumes have been written about fly fishing and I’ll just cover the basics. Finally, I’ll touch on my thoughts on conservation and how to make sure future generations can enjoy the sport.

The Natural Sportsmanchief writes 'Hello, my name is John, but everyone I know calls me "Chief". I have been fortunate to grow up in and around the woods and water of Southeast Arkansas. Down here our primary pastimes usually involve a gun, a fishing rod, a boat, or some combination of the three.

Dogschief writes 'Every man should be so lucky as I have been to have been ownedfor a time - by a patient and loving dog. I borrowed the following which came from an ancient Newfoundland Headstone over the grave of a dog called "Boatswain" I thought it was a fitting tribute to a friend so fine and fair as my girl Juicy:
